Twirly Thursdays #7: Hometown Hero

Hey guys I hope you've had a good weekend at Creamfields for those of you in Brisbane, I have only heard great things. This week's Twirly Thursday we are looking at an up-and-coming Australian DJ who is making waves all over the Trance scene and especially at Creamfields and A State Of Trance 550.

The Dutch (What is with dutch DJs?) yet Aussie-based has been cranking tunes non-stop in the past 12 months and remixing the likes of Ferry Corsten and W&W. Starting with beautiful melodic releases like Just Breathe and The Island. It's simple: The guy is a star, ranging from melodic and euphoric to even some heavy-hitting action. MaRLo has no bounds and is creating some of the best new-wave trance to hit so far.

The first MaRLo tune I had ever heard was his crazy remix of Ferry's Brain Box. This tune was played by Ferry Corsten in his sets for over a year. This was one of the first showcases of MaRLo's talent.

Recently, during ASOT 550 MaRLo had released a brand new EP featuring Megalodon and boy was it a big one. The moment it was released Armin had started playing it immediately, it also features in Armin's Miami video report.

Recently during Creamfields MaRLo had released another EP: Showgrounds. Aptly named after the Flemington Showgrounds where most festivals are held in Melbourne. It is a showcase of his diversity as well as already-proven abilities. This first track I am showing you guys is my personal favourite from the lot. He describes the name of the song in the interview as what it makes you want to do: Beat your chest like a drum.

Festival season is over so we're gonna have to find new ways to entertain ourselves in between. Armada night is also coming up in approximately 3 weeks so I will have some posts in preparation of that. That's all from me guys, thanks for reading and enjoy your weekends!

Twirly Thursdays #6: Duderstadt

Hey guys welcome to another Twirly Thursday, bringing to you just a few new fresh tunes that I've discovered in the past week. Today's artist of choice is Duderstadt the brothers Marco & Dirk's side-project away from Fragma.

They have been a favourite of mine since their lushious remix of Oceanlab's Breaking Ties. Upcoming end of this week is not only Brisbane's creamfields but Godskitchen's massive SIXFIVETWELVE:
This event looks INSANE, the body parts I would sell just to be there. The track in the background? Well it's Mark Eteson's Together (who is also going to be playing at SixFiveTwelve. A beautiful track which none other than Duderstadt did a fantastic remix of:
In typical Duderstadt fashion they start off with a nice buildup and head into some energizing synths which makes you want to just dance on your seat. Very reminiscent of an earlier beast remix of theirs, check it:
This is a fantastic tune and this alone makes me want someone or at least anyone to bring these guys down to Sydney, they would play a killer gig and should not be missed by anyone. That's it for me this week guys I hope you have a safe and intense time at Creamfields and don't forget to go W&W, noone deserves to miss their set they will blow your mind!

Bonus: In preparation for Sydney's Armada Night 9th of June. I present to you a new track, not exactly new but the remixes had only just been released and I love the original and love the remix even more. The original gets paid its dues as MS54 keep the heavy bass sounds intact. See you next time!

Old Gold #3: Above & Beyond

Hey guys welcome to another Old Gold, sorry it's been awhile since the last one but things have been busy with work and uni and haven't had the time to work on this.

If you are in Sydney, then today is Creamfields day! Get excited cause the post is related, I will be showing you some of the first Above & Beyond songs I had listened to. A few weeks back I had posted and showed you the first trance songs I had listened to, now that was before I knew what trance was. When I had found out what trance was my first act was to look up some trance songs and a friend of mine had told me to listen to: Oceanlab. Above & Beyond paired up with the beautiful voice of Justine Suissa are solely the reason for my introduction into trance and my love for it.

The first song I had ever listened to was On A Good Day  and if you haven't heard go have a listen. It is an amazing tune that can brighten up any day, and no matter how good of a day you already are having this song takes it just that little bit further.

This is an amazing remix of Synapse Dynamics by Arty, and Mat Zo pushes it further by incorporating the vocals of Oceanlab's Satellite. Satellite is one of my favourite Oceanlab songs of all time and everytime I hear it I get taken back to fond memories of the first time I had seen Above & Beyond.

This is my FAVOURITE Above & Beyond song indefinitely. This was the first time I had ever heard Richard Bedford's vocals and still to this day believe he is the best male vocalist in trance.

I wish they still play this song in their sets, the last time I saw them at Future Music 2010 this was played towards the end of their set and with everyone in the crowd chanting the vocals the energy in the crowd was indescribable. I can only pray that they play it tomorrow :)

Bonus:

They most definitely won't play this song, but it's also one of my favourites to listen to once in awhile, the chills I get from this song are unrivalled. Enjoy!

Chewy Tuesday #5: It Is Never Too Early

Hello everybardy, Chewy Tuesday time again so let's get to it! I'm sure all of you munchers are budding for Creamfields and Splendour to come just as we are here at MuMuMunchies... So in preparation, today Arisa and I will like to present you something more on the lines of a introductory feel good post. Let this be a little lead up before Chau posts our first ever Creamfields Mini Mix on Thursday! :)
First up we have Miike Snow. We know it's a little early to be eager for Splendour but after his amazing performance at Coachella last weekend, this was something we just had to include in the week's post. A Drum & Bass rendition of 'Black & Blue', perfect for any given day.
With Tiesto releasing his 'Club Life Volume Two Miami Mini Mix' last week, it was really something we could not just look by. There were many great songs on the mix that we could post however we will keep this week simple and sweet. Prepare for one of the more uplifting tunes that will make you chatty and dancey 'Make Some Noise.'

Marshmallow Mondays #3: In a Million Years

In celebration of the long anticipated Splendour In The Grass lineup, I thought I'd start off our first of many Splendour Specials with local Brisbanites, the Last Dinosaurs! If you haven't heard 'Zoom', 'Time & Place' and 'Honolulu' then I suggest you guys check out their latest album, In a Million Years. Having been part of the Triple J Unearthed class back in 2010 with other acts such as Boy & Bear and Gypsy & the Cat, you'd expect some pretty good music - and these guys deliver it in such a way that'll eliminate your boredom during those long road trips down the coastline.
Last Dinosaurs
First we have 'Andy', which consists of enthusiastically contagious guitar riffs that'll have jumping on your bed like you were 5 again:

Next is 'Weekend', a love song to sweeten the mood. This single is perfect to end your sun soaked day at the beach, bringing you to the hammock and kicking back with a beer.
Angus Stone, another exciting artist who will be appearing at Splendour In The Grass, has branched out to his solo career with debut album 'Broken Brights'. With this week filled with love songs, here's another, 'Bird on the Buffalo' which definitely showcases Angus' unique voice.

Fat Friday #3: Theophilus London

Hey Hey it's Fat Friday! Today I want to introduce someone not particularly new but who I've favoured for quite a while now. Known as Theophilus London, you will find this Brooklyn raised singer/rapper almost everywhere in the virtual world these days. From brief cameo appearances in Beyonce's music videos to writing promo songs for hit TV show Entourage, he is everywhere.
The first time I ever heard of London's material was during his debut performance of 'Flying Overseas' at the Cannes International Film Festival. The brilliance to be given an opportunity to begin a career at such an event is pretty self explanatory, which also gives reason as to why he is so popular today.
I was lucky enough to catch him live at the Tivoli last year and though he did give off a bit of a pretentious vibe, the quality of his music does speak for itself. With a new mixtape out now and album coming soon, do stop to have a listen! Especially with tracks like 'Wine & Chocolates' and 'Why Even Try', I promise you won't regret it!

Bonus Track:
Theophilus' first ever track released, saved me so many times stuck in traffic :)

Twirly Thursdays #4: My Mind Is With You

Welcome to another Twirly Thursday! This week is a continuance from last week's Creamfields edition: W&W. Willem and Wardt are a duo that have become rising stars of trance all within about 3 years. These guys are well known for their fist-pumping, head-banging, energizing anthems which are played by the likes of Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Tiesto. Seriously they are NOT an act you wanna miss at Creamfields, when they came around last year around May-ish they were insane. Bring a change of undies.

This is an old remix but nonetheless it is a treat just warm up your ears and wait for 2:38.

During ASOT 550 (The Anthem, which was made by W&W), they had released a brand new fist pumper called Shotgun. As one of my friends describes it "It's like someone putting a bucket over your head, and smashing it with a mallet over and over". This song grows on you definitely and if you hear it enough times you cant help but jump up and dance.

So if you like your trance a little bit grittier, a little bit harder and edgier then come to trance stage at 7-8:30 at Creamfields and let your mind be blown. This last one is a remix by our own Australian, Melbourne-based MaRLo. Who's been recently making huge waves (The song is MaRLo's Megalodon) in the trance scene.

Bonus: I have a feeling this track is going to be played by W&W. Brand new Orjan Nilsen just previewed at the recent Den Bosch ASOT 550. Once again, 2:35.

Chewy Tuesday #4

Shitload of assignments, exams and good music; Chewy Tuesday is here again so pay attention!

First up we got a nitty gritty treat. For those of you who have listened to Calvertron you'd know what I mean. With the original track by Wynter Gordon & Laidback Luke, pretty cool how production manages to keep the melodic feel yet also make you feel like screaming!

Another Swedish producer who has big things to come is Bjornberg. He's only 19... but with the likes of Madeon and Porter Robinson, all of whom are youngsters killing it right now, who are we to judge? Voted one of the top dance songs last year, do have a gander.
- Ringo

Those looking forward to Excision at Creamfields this year and got traumatised by his announcement that he would be dropping out, be traumatised no more because Figure will be there to fill your wobbly needs! This filthy one just came out a few days ago so expect it to start pumping in clubs real soon!
- Pretzel Pete!
